Celebrating Freedom: Both Inner and Outer

Celebrating Freedom

This week marks the celebration of independence. The celebration of a country that has had 240 years of freedom. As I sat and thought about this the past few days, I couldn’t help but open my consciousness and spirit to all that has taken place to bring this freedom about.

Of the 240 years of independence in America, there have been 223 years of war, which means our country has been at war 93% of the time. As my mind reflected upon this thought, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the importance of looking honestly at the past, even those dark periods, in order to realize how we can add our light at this current time.

As we celebrate our freedom, we should be mindful of all the lives that have been impacted throughout the past few centuries. Here in the south, being mindful of the native communities that once roamed throughout America and the people who were brought to this country, sold and forced to work in building much of the foundation of this nation.

Why must I mention these things?

I say all of this not to dampen the celebration of the incredible freedom we have across the U.S., but I say this to encourage all to recognize the real history so we can go forth and be the change we’d like to see.

Each moment of our day, each action we commit to, and those things we stand for not only impact our lives and the community we are a part of, but they affect the planet and future generations. Knowing the true history helps us shine our light in a conscious and intentional way.

These thoughts brought me to this point, this 4th of July let us not only celebrate the freedoms of this country, but let us take time to celebrate our inner independence to be the best we can be.

Celebrating the Freedom to Be Me

There are some freedoms that don’t have to be passed by senators or house representatives, that aren’t brought about by the signing of a constitution or laws from government officials.

This freedom I am speaking of is the freedom we came into this world possessing.

This freedom dwells within each of us. This freedom is the ability to use our Energy and Essence, our minds and hearts in whatever way we choose.

These are our inner freedoms.

3 Keys to Inner Freedom

1 – Freedom of Thoughts – We all have Energy within us, it is the Essence that flows throughout the cosmos. This is the Divine Presence that awakens us, breathes through us and beats our hearts. We use this Energy everyday. The first key to celebrating your inner freedom is realizing your ability to use your mind to think whatever thoughts you choose. Nobody can think for you, and how you choose to think is a freedom that can never be taken from you. As Viktor Frankl said in his book, Man’s Search For Meaning, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

2 – Freedom of Choices – In addition to the freedom we have to think whatever thoughts we desire, we each have the freedom to choose how we will live our lives each day. These choices flow forth from the depths of our spirit and while many people often choose the same choices day in and day out, at any given time they have the freedom to choose a new choice. In doing so, they can transform their experience, create new doorways of opportunity and ascend to higher levels of life.

3 – Freedom of Actions – There are places on the planet we call home where people have the freedom to think and choose specific choices, but there are some in bondage who don’t have this final piece of freedom, the freedom of action. Celebrate your ability to use your mind, body and soul in a way where you can be led to action. It is action that is the final piece which assists in co-creating your experience. May your actions remind you of your freedom to create your life any way you choose, and may your actions uplift and inspire this planet we are upon.

Weekly Opportunity

Choose to create one new POSITIVE experience in your life this week. Don’t just hope and wish but be willing to use your mind, your choices and your actions to assist in creating something that is calling out to your spirit.

Celebrate your freedom to be you. Everyday give thanks for Life.

Peace. Happiness. Compassion. Respect.
